This time of year always brings with it profound feelings of love and gratitude. 2017 has been a big one for NATALIJA, as I’m sure it was for you too. So after we have taken the time to enjoy the company of loved ones (and maybe a bit too much Christmas lunch!) I thought it was time to look back on the year and take a moment to reflect.
At NATALIJA this year has been a turning point for the brand, I really strove to shift things back to the core beliefs that drove me to start the label. After starting to feel a bit lost and overwhelmed by the fashion industry mid-way through the year I stepped away from the business for a couple of months to do some soul searching and reflect on the brand’s values. This completely revitalised my passion and provided me with renewed inspiration. Without the love and motivation of my customers and support from family and friends, I wouldn’t have been able to push through and keep going.
In a lot of ways what we have created this year has been a continuation of our core value of making beautiful garments our customers will love for years to come. However, in 2017 this value has intensified and through some major changes behind the scenes our focus on quality, timeless design and longevity has grown even stronger.
This year our biggest achievement has been moving our production to Sydney, Australia allowing us to support local craftsman but also to work towards a system with less excess and ensure a higher standard of product. Alongside this we created a Silk Wash product to complement our collection as well as educate our customer on the ease of maintaining silk and the value in caring for your garments for longer wear. We also re-launched our Bridal Collection which was in line with the early ideas of the brand, and were delighted to hear that this was something that you, our customer was seeking.
NATALIJA appeared on the pages of number of press publications including Vogue Australia, ELLE Australia and Who What Wear and was also spotted on the likes of Hailey Baldwin, Montana Cox and Carmen Grace Hamilton. We are now proudly stocked at Well Made Clothes, alongside their beautiful collection of ethical brands and became a part of CTF Curated which hosts some brilliant emerging Australian designers. This program is run by the Council of Textile and Fashion and we were very excited to participate in a successful retail pop up in Melbourne during Fashion Week in September.
On top of all of these amazing achievements I was invited to design a bespoke silk eye mask for luxury Australian resort, Emirates One & Only Wolgan Valley and a capsule bridal collection for the Viceroy Palm Jumeriah Hotel in Dubai, both were very special projects that I was thrilled to contribute to. See, I told you this year had been a big one!
So what’s ahead in 2018? This year will certainly be a hard one to back up but we are so looking forward to what the new year has in store for NATALIJA. Without giving too much away, you’ll see beautiful additions to our collection, an exciting collaboration, more pop-up stores and that’s just the beginning.
I am so grateful for these opportunities but above all the chance to meet some amazing women, with whom I know our friendships will be long lasting. I thank you for the support and look forward to you joining me for NATALIJA’s next chapter.
Have a safe, joyful, and relaxing break over the New Year.
With love from Natalija x
