Dear Self: Kelly Cartwright

It is a pleasure to introduce Kelly Cartwright. Kelly is an Australian athlete and London 2012 Paralympic Games gold and silver medal winner. The inspirational runner from Geelong tragically lost her leg to cancer at 15, overcoming that challenge to become a multi World Record holder and one of Australia’s most respected Paralympian.

Read Kelly's words below, a beautifully written letter to herself.

Dear Self,

You’re enough, you’re strong, you’re a great mother and the things in life you’ve achieved don’t define you.

You have struggled with your identity for a long time, but you’re now understanding that these things don’t impact who you are as a person, they are part of your journey, and you’re more than a medal and more than words on paper.

Be kind to yourself when your world changes, when your body changes and when you find yourself lost in motherhood. You’re babies aren’t  babies for long and you’re their whole world.

Keep showing the world that different is beautiful and its ok to be who you want to be, its ok to put yourself first some days and its ok to not be everything to everyone.

Remember to only keep those in your corner who want the best for you and don’t care who you are or what you’re doing as long as your happy.

Those that mind don’t matter and those that matter don’t mind.

Be kind yon yourself,

Love Kelly
